Meet the teachers

Jacqueline Drain

Jacqueline is our most experienced teacher. Over the last 20 years (and maybe a couple more!) she has taught hundreds of dancers in Preston and the surrounding area. Most of them have been trained to Open standard and at one time, it was not unheard of for the Shamrock Dancers to be represented at the Great Britain Championships in almost every age group!

Jacqueline has trained dancers to become regional champions, achieve recalls at the national competitions and, for some, qualify for the World Championships.

She is now concentrating on training our new generation of champion dancers, most of who are currently at the Primary and Intermediate Stage (although she does have a couple of senior dancers still trying their luck in the Opens!)

Catherine Calvey

Catherine began dancing with the Shamrock Dancers at the age of 3. She had a very successful dancing career, regularly competing in the Opens and the Great Britain Championships, which culminated in her qualifying for the World Championships in 2003. Catherine decided to end on a high and hung up her competitive dance shoes shortly after, although she continued to dance in displays and exhibitions for a few years before training for her teaching examination.

After a lot of hard work and practice, Catherine passed her exams in 2012 and joined Jacqueline to teach with the school she had grown up in.

Catherine is responsible for our beginners, both children and adults. When you start, she will take you through the light dances and help you learn the basic moves. For our adults, she will train you hard whilst making sure you have a fun workout – laughter is heard throughout the entirety of the adult class, with bottles of water at the ready!
